A CARNOUSTIE street party recently raised funds to improve the living standard of a young boy.
On September 1 a reunion of Primrose Street residents from the 1960s onwards met up in the Stag’s Head to reminisce and raise funds for neighbour Gerry Bruce.
Five year old Gerry is confined to his wheelchair, suffers from epilepsy and is unable to speak. The money raised will go toward taking him to Disneyland Florida next year.
Guests came from as far away as Australia, Bathgate and Newcastle, and a total of £300 was realised.
One of the organisers Sharon Myles said: “Gerry’s mum (Kelly Flynn) grew up with us on Primrose Street and lately became a resident.
“There were 90 people there. The get-together started as a joke on Facebook.
“Myself and Jim Auld started this as a joke and the reunion was a huge success bringing together people from 1960 to the present day from Primrose Street.
“People attended from all over Scotland, England and even as far as Australia.
“Primrose Street didn’t have a good name in the 1970s and ‘80s. A lot of us suffered from name calling and we wanted to show it was a totally different place and that we could all pull together.”
