Competition - beautiful gardens

Show off your shrubs, water your window boxes, and plant out your baskets in time for the Beautiful Angus Garden competition.

It’s open to council tenants, primary schools and licensed premises.

Any blossoming domestic gardens, prize winning pubs, hotels or primary schools are all in with a chance of winning this years beautiful gardens comeptition.

The ever-popular green fingered contest is back and now open for entries.

To be in with a chance of winning the coveted title, visit the Angus Council website www.angus.gov.uk and click on the Beautiful Angus Garden link to fill in the online form.

An Angus Council spokesperson said: “Send us photographs of your garden when you enter so we can share the results of your hard work in competition publicity.”

The closing date for school entries is Friday, May 29, and the closing date for all other entries is Tuesday, June 30.

Beginners with just a few planters or window boxes, schools with eco plots, and seasoned gardeners with mature gardens are all invited to enter.

Nominate your own or your neighbour’s garden, encourage your local school to be inventive in their eco garden and persuade your pub, and other local licenced premises, to make the most of their outside space and street fronts.

There are prizes galore in each of the three competition categories:

1. Angus Council tenants

2. Licensed premises

3. Primary schools

Joining the council judging team will be past entrants and winners as well as members of local community planting groups.

Garden entries will be scored on their use of space and colour, the integration of plants and flowers, general cleanliness, innovation and sustainability.

Judging will be completed by mid-July and Angus Council will contact entrants before judging begins.
