THE CHESTNUTS are roasting on an open fire, the bells are jingling and the halls are decked – it can only be time once again for the Arbroath Male Voice Choir to host their annual Concert for Christmas at St Andrew’s Church, Arbroath, on Sunday (December 16).
The 40 strong choir will be joined by special guests Maggie Findlay, soprano, and the fabulous Arbroath Instrumental Band in what promises to be a great evening of seasonal song and merriment.
Choir president Dr Richard Irvine announced: “We have a great programme of songs this year, all designed to bring that warm glow inside! There is a pleasing mix of the melodiously haunting to the foot-tapping bright and breezy, so there is definitely something to please everyone.
“Carnoustie-based Maggie Findlay is a well known face in local musical circles having sung with the likes of the Angus Minstrels and is a former Blue Riband winner at the Arbroath and District Musical Festival. She has just released her first CD, which is entitled, ‘Something Wonderful’ with all proceeds going to charity. We are delighted she is taking part in our Christmas Concert this year.”
Dr Irvine continued: “The Christmas Concerts wouldn’t be the same without our friends the Arbroath Instrumental Band, and we are glad they could be with us once again. We look forward to their performances under the expert leadership of Michael Robertson.
“The audience will have the opportunity to exercise their vocal chords with five familiar ‘carols for all’ throughout the evening and a special new swing-along session. We hope that everybody will join in the seasonal singing and there might just be a few surprises! ”
The choir will be under the musical direction of Sheena Guthrie and special guest accompanist will be Alison Hart. The concert starts at 7.30 p.m. and admission is by ticket which cost £6 (£1 for children) and are available on the door or from GB Business and Print, Millgate, Flemings the Butcher, Ponderlaw, in Arbroath, and choir members.
