ANGUS Council this week awarded nearly £25,000 to voluntary organisations in the region, including several from our area.
This will bring the total investment in local community projects from the community grant scheme to almost £121,000 so far in the 2012/13 financial year, just over 70 per cent of the available budget. The council has approved 50 of the 70 applications received.
Just under £11,000 of the event fund budget has been allocated to 14 applicants; just over 28 per cent of the £40,000 available.
The council’s Infrastructure Services convener Mairi Evans said: “Community grants have been awarded to organisations in every council ward, with the Montrose and Carnoustie wards being the most enthusiastic and successful applicants, each receiving around £17,700 so far this year.
“This is the first year of the event fund which offers not for profit organisations funding to support them to organise events which bring positive spin-offs for Angus.
“While many groups have been successful many more could apply and enjoy the same benefit, and the same goes for the event fund, which offers support with those event costs which carry a direct charge from the council. I’d urge any group to speak to our external funding team before applying as they can steer you through the process – even if it turns out that your group isn’t eligible for a community grant they can advise on other sources of funding.”
The following awards were made to organisations in our area: Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band received £1,000 toward the cost of their trip to the Royal Albert Hall; £4,997 went to the 1st Dunnichen Scouts for toilet upgrades at Letham Scout Hall; £3,500 went to Arbroath Friends of Guiding for replacement windows at the Ogilvy Place guide centre and Carnoustie Claymores swimming Club received £3,177 for underwater video analysis equipment.
