With Glasgow 2014 rapidly approaching Angus Council has published on its website local arrangements for the Commonwealth Games’ events at Barry Buddon.

The information has been made available on and includes the traffic restrictions in place in Barry and Carnoustie during the five days of shooting at Barry Buddon.

The chair of the Angus Commonwealth Games steering group Councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “With just over a week to go we are keen to make sure the Commonwealth Games in Angus is an enjoyable event for residents as well as the 6000+ spectators going to the shooting event at Barry Buddon between 25 – 29 July.

“The information now available on our website details the local arrangements which will be in place for parking, waste collections and access to local areas during the event.

“We are writing to residents and businesses in the areas directly affected to make sure they are aware of the specific arrangements for their street. Elsewhere in the town there should be minimal disruption to day-to-day life.”

Traffic restrictions and on-street waiting restrictions are detailed on the traffic management plan. Residents in Carnoustie are asked to note that the level crossing next to Anderson Street in Carnoustie will be locked by Network Rail from 6 a.m. to 8.45 p.m. on each day of practice and competition, Saturday, July 12 to Tuesday, July 29.

This is due to the significantly increased numbers of people who may use the cycle route to access the Barry Buddon venue.

A council spokesperson also highlighted that capacity at Monifieth recycling centre may be restricted during the Games, saying: “Skip vehicles going to and from the centre use the Barry Buddon Road to avoid the low bridge. However security restrictions will restrict vehicle movement during competition days. As a result capacity at the recycling centre may be limited as we will not be able to empty skips as usual. To avoid disappointment customers may wish to make use of other recycling centres between 25 – 29 July.”
