ANGUS South MSP Graeme Dey has welcomed newly released figures which show that from the first quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2011 the number of bobbies on the beat in Tayside has increased from 1,154 to 1,236.
Across Scotland there are over 1,000 new police officers on our streets.
Mr Dey said: “I very much welcome these figures. The SNP made a firm commitment when coming into government four years ago that we would put another 1,000 police on our streets. We have surpassed that locally and we have an extra 82 officers making our communities safer over that period.
“From a meeting this week with senior officers of Eastern Division I know they are extremely committed to playing an active role in the towns and villages in the county. This is being demonstrated through the Community Task Force locally in Angus, and the increase of 82 policemen and women will help them carry out this vital task.”
