A former Monifieth police officer was yesterday (Monday) cleared of charges accusing him of stalking his ex-girlfriend.
George Stewart (38) of Reform Street, Monifieth, appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court on two charges of stalking on summary complaint, which alleged that between March and July last year that he had continued to contact Jordan Evans (21) against her wishes following their break-up.
The first charge alleged that he had bombarded Evans with texts and had visited her at her work at David Lloyd’s Gym, Dundee, and a second charge accused Stewart of again attending her place of work, having one of her colleagues hand over a birthday card filled with photographs and then attending a further time to hand over a letter and refusing to leave when Evans asked.
The Crown alleged that this contact was unwelcome to Evans and had caused her fear and alarm.
Stewart denied both charges.
Stewart and Evans were in a relationship for around 18 months prior to the break up and had lived together in Monifieth for approximately five months.
Finding Stewart not guilty of the charges, Sheriff Brian Cameron told him: “In all the circumstances in relation to the delivery of the (birthday) card, I am not satisfied you knew to engage in that course of conduct would cause fear or alarm.
“Your conduct in the circumstances was reasonable and the texts were not abusive.”
