THE MSP for Angus South, Graeme Dey, has congratulated Tayside Police on the crime reduction reported by the latest statistics.
According to the latest figures released by the Scottish Government the national figures for 2011/12 are the lowest for 37 years.
In Tayside, the steady decline of recorded offences has continued, with a further five per cent reduction observed.
Since 2006/7 when the SNP came to power in Holyrood, the crime rate has decreased by 40 per cent.
Mr Dey said: “These figures starkly demonstrate that, along with putting more bobbies on the beat in our streets, under an SNP Scottish Government our towns and communities have become safer places to live.
“Across the country we have seen marked reductions in the number of crimes committed, and this is excellent news for the vast majority who do not perpetrate criminal activity and want to be secure in the knowledge that the Police are doing their job well.
“These figures show the SNP are being tough on criminals, and securing a safe environment in which to live and work. I congratulate Tayside Police officers on their work in protecting our communities across Angus.”
