Angus South MSP Graeme Dey has welcomed the news that the number of serving Tayside Police officers has increased to its highest level in six years.

Government statistics show that as of March 31, there were 1,245 officers in the region, a rise of 91 on the first quarter of 2007.

And Mr Dey believes the SNP’s policy of recruiting additional police officers is paying off.

He said: “People want to see more bobbies on the beat and that is what the Scottish government is delivering.

“It is no coincidence that alongside the increased police numbers we have seen crime levels fall to a 37 year low.”
