FIRE-RAISING vandals in Monifieth have forced a seafront children’s park to close one of their attractions.

The incident took place on Sunday night at the Blue Seaway children’s playpark at around 11.45 p.m., and it is estimated that over £1,000 of damage has been caused.

The wooden tower climbing frame was set alight and a large hole was burned through the structure, forcing it to be closed in the interests of health and safety.

Monifieth councillor John R. Whyte was disgusted by this mindless act of vandalism. He said: “I’m horrified at what happened there at the Blue Seaway park.

“I’m just very unhappy. A lot of time and effort has gone into the front and it’s just awful when this kind of thing happens.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information to assist inquiries and to apprehend those responsible.

At the time of going to press, enquiries were still continuing, anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.
