MONIFIETH couple Tom and Nan Shepherd celebrated 60 sparkling years of marriage on Thursday.
And to mark the occasion the pair were visited at their Grange Road home by Depute Lieutenant of Angus, Midge Bett and Provost of Angus Helen Oswald.
The couple were married in 1953, in St Andrew’s Church in Calcutta as Mr Shepherd was working in the textiles industry in India at the time.
They moved back to Scotland in 1961 when Mr Shepherd took a job in Dundee and he became managing director of a textiles business in the city before retiring in 1991 to Monifieth.
Mrs Shepherd stayed at home to look after the couple’s two children Jennifer and Clive.
There are also six grandchildren and one recently arrived great grand-daughter.
The couple enjoyed a party at home to mark the milestone, with some relatives travelling all the way from Vancouver in Canada to join in with the special day.
And Mr Shepherd was also thrilled to be visited by the dignitaries on Thursday who passed on their best wishes on behalf of Angus Council and Her Majesty the Queen.
He said: “It was the real icing on the cake for those two ladies to visit us on our special day.”
