A CARNOUSTIE businesswoman and her staff have raised almost £10,000 to help support cancer patients in the local area.

Dorothy Laing of local company DJ Laing organised a series of fund-raising events including a ladies’ night, ceilidh, cake and candy stalls and donations instead of Christmas cards, with the help of her staff.

The group raised a total of £9,763 which will be donated to the Maggie’s Centre based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, which helps cancer patients and their families.

The sum will go a long way towards the yearly £350,000 cost of the centre and will provide funds for 200 visitors to participate in the ‘Living with Cancer’ course.

Tracey Curry, community fund-raising co-ordinator for Maggie’s Centre, said: “Maggie’s depends entirely on the support of the local business community and local people to raise the funds needed to run the centre.

“We are very grateful to Dorothy and her Dazzlers for their hard work and generous support – it really does make a huge difference to our centre visitors”.
