IN THE first meeting of the Midland Golfers’ Alliance season at a sunny Muckhart in Clackmannanshire on Thursday, Panmure Golf Club’s Doug Mitchell shared first handicap prize with Roy Sinclair, Muckhart, on net 70.
Best scratch score was a level-par 71 by Edzell professional Alastair Webster.
Qualifiers for the JTC Interiors Express Midland Golfers’ Alliance Championship at Crieff in April were A. Webster (P), Edzell, R. Sinclair, Muckhart, and W. Hutton, Pitlochry.
McQueen Shield qualifiers were R. Sinclair, Muckhart, (3), and D. Mitchell, Panmure, (5).
Next week’s meeting is at Thornton on Thursday, September 6, with tee-times from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Katy missed cut
CARNOUSTIE’S Katy McNicoll missed the cut, with a score of 77, at Monday’s pre-qualifying competition for the Ricoh Women’s British Open at the Berkshire Golf Club. Four other Scots, Lynn Kenny, Archerfield Links, Claire Queen, Carrick at Loch Lomond, Heather McRae, Gleneagles and Kelsey McDonald Nairn Dunbar, were among the 30 qualifiers.
Carnoustie Club results
CARNOUSTIE and district Racing Pigeon Club held a race from Consett, County Durham, on Sunday. Two members sent 11 birds.
Leading velocities were: 1, Les McKay 865.26; 2, Brian Main 849.83; 3, Les McKay 838.94; 4, Brian Main 786.24.
Gowfers’ Gamble jackpot winners
THERE were two lucky jackpot winners when the Gowfers’ Gamble weekly draw was made at Laing Park on Monday evening.
S. Smith, Arbroath, and S. McGlynn, Carnoustie, each receive £1,500.
The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 8, 11, 12 and 14.
The jackpot for the next draw on Monday (September 3) will be £500.
