THE FASTEST drummer in the world was in Carnoustie recently to put the drummers of the Carnoustie and District Pipe Band through their paces,
The Band members were treated to an excellent day of top level tuition from Carl Williams of CW Percussion.
Carl has been recorded in the Guiness Book of World Records as the fastest drummer and has also played with the world championship-winning Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band.
The day’s workshop was won by young drummer Amy Forbes who came first in the solo drumming competition in Brechin in September. The whole drum corps benefited from Amy’s prize, as they were treated to a very educational and inspirational day!
The leading drummer of the Carnoustie band, Neil Russell, was very enthusiastic about the day’s accomplishments,
“This has been a very fruitful day for our young drummers. Many of them have only been learning for a short period of time and they have come on leaps and bound. Workshops like this show what can be achieved by talented youngsters like themselves with a lot of hard work and determination.
“Carl is an excellent teacher and very motivational, and all the drummers have come away from this event eager to practice and get better.”
Mr Russell continued: “I’m very impressed with the enthusiasm of all the members who participated and even at such an early stage in their Pipe Band career they are already making a significant contributing to the success of the Carnoustie and District Band.”
The workshop attracted a host of other drummers and percussionists from the local area and further afield who were keen to draw on Mr Williams’ expertise.
The Carnoustie band, despite only being formed in 2008, is a rapidly expanding organisation with over 30 performing members, many of whom have been taught through the popular lessons run by the band. It is always keen to recruit new members, whether they are keen to learn to play the bagpipes or drums from scratch or join as experienced players.
The lessons take place on Monday evenings at Burnside Primary School, Carnoustie, commencing 7 p.m., and the full Band practice on Wednesday evenings at Newton Panbride Church, Carnoustie, also at 7 p.m.
