An Angus College lecturer has been recognised in the Scottish Parliament for her contribution to teaching social sciences.

Cherry Hopton, who has worked at the Arbroath campus, was highly commended in the SQA Star Awards in recognition of her commitment and expertise in the area of diverse assessment in her field.

And after her success, a motion was put forward in the Scottish Parliament by Angus South MSP Graeme Dey, who wanted to publicly congratulate the course leader.

Mr Dey said: “I have known Cherry for some time now and was delighted when I heard about her achievement. It is quite a feat to be recognised by the SQA’s Star Awards and I wanted to highlight that fact with a Parliamentary Motion in the Scottish Parliament.

“Cherry I know is held in high esteem by her students and it is great that her efforts have been formally acknowledged in this way.”

Among her many SQA related achievements, she has also been appointed as the external verifier for HN Social Sciences, as the assessment support pack writer for various Social Science units and is a member of the qualifications design team.
