AN ARBROATH student has been awarded a training certificate from the oldest hotel school in the world.
Damian McDonald (28) has returned to Dundee College’s Kingsway Campus after enjoying a short training trip to cutting edge Swiss hotel school, Ecole Hoteliere, in Lausanne.
The HNC hospitality student was one of a group from Scotland who enjoyed a series of lectures, seminars and visits to top hotels and restaurants to experience what students at one of the world’s top hotel schools are being taught.
Damian said: “They have a completely different attitude to service, everything is given five-star treatment, and the attention to detail is amazing.
“I had worked as VIP cabin crew previously and saw similarities with that style of service but the etiquette is far more customer-focused than is usual in Scotland, we even studied the psychology of the customer-serving staff relationship.
“It was fascinating to study these techniques then see them put in practice when we visited restaurants or cafes.”
