Dreich December weather did not hamper D&A College students and staff from delivering some festive cheer last week.
In a venture organised by the Students’ Association and the college Learner Engagement Team, a group of students and staff collected, packaged and are delivering food hampers to neighbouring sheltered housing tenants.
Selected residents of Adam Cargill Court in Arbroath were presented with hampers on Friday (December 19) by student and staff volunteers – complete with fairy hats and elfin ears.
Students and staff from all three campuses, Arbroath, Gardyne and Kingsway, donated about £300 to fill the parcels as well as contributing actual items.
“Over the past two years we have delivered parcels to 150 people in Arbroath so this year we thought we would extend the scheme to the Gardyne Campus,” explained Katie Anderson, learner engagement manager.
“This isn’t just about handing a parcel over and smiling, our volunteers will greet the recipients with a carol, and hopefully bring the real spirit of Christmas to their doorstep.”
Katie added: “In past we have been made very welcome, one woman was really delighted and we discovered that she had not had a visitor for 15 years.”
