A FORMER Scottish FA football development officer who worked all over Angus is heading for the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Japan with the New Zealand women’s under-20 national team.
Stevie Baxter, was born and bred in Dundee and moved to Auckland, New Zealand last year to take on a role as a football development manager with Auckland Football Federation.
He was appointed as the technical assistant of the country’s junior football Ferns team, and he has helped them to qualify to compete at the World Cup in Japan starting on August 18.
The Junior Football Ferns will face Switzerland in game one then the hosts Japan, and will look to secure qualification to the later stages following game three against Mexico.
Stevie said from his base in Auckland: “I am extremely honoured to be invited onto the technical staff of the Junior Football Ferns and to represent my new adopted homeland.
“To attend a FIFA World Cup at this level will be a massive experience and with the team that we have on and off the pitch I believe that we can go and compete against the world’s elite.”
