FIRST year pupils from Monifieth High School will take part in a scenario today (Friday) when they will be engineers sent to help rebuild a country devastated by a hurricane.
The Rapid Response Engineering Challenge (RREC) is a programme run by the Institution of Civil Engineers (I.C.E.) in Scotland designed to communicate engineering principles to pupils.
The activity is aimed at raising the awareness of civil engineering among young people and encouraging some to see it as a possible future career.
The pupils have already had an interactive presentation from a civil engineer and for the past two weeks, classes across the school curriculum have been geared to the hurricane theme as the pupils are ‘trained’ to be rapid response engineers.
As part of the challenge, pupils in their groups also raise funds for a charity that helps children in the developing world.
