Monifieth Library news

It’s going to be a spooky summer! The Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge is back with a bang and this year it’s entitled Creepy House.

Library staff all over the country are gearing up for a busy time and in Monifieth they are hoping for their highest finishing numbers yet!

Creepy House is for primary school aged children and encourages them to read one book per week during their summer break. There are weekly competitions, craft and games afternoons and six rewards to collect.

Children who successfully complete the challenge will be invited to a special awards ceremony where they will receive a medal and certificate!

Running alongside Creepy House is Bookbug’s Library Challenge for the under fives. Their challenge is much the same: six books in six weeks with a reward for each book returned and an extra special Bookbug Ceremony for those who complete the Challenge. Bookbug children are also invited to special weekly Bookbug sessions held throughout the holidays.

Please note that whilst all of library activities are free, some may require pre-booking. Please pop into the library for more details. You can pre-register your child for either challenge from June 17 and the challenges will be officially launched on Monday, July 1, with some special activities in the library between 2 and 4 p.m. Come along to collect your joining packs and have some fun!

If library reading challenges don’t capture your imagination, there will also be a book sale in the library during July.

Sale items will include a selection of fiction, non-fiction and spoken word for both adult and junior. The sale will run during normal library opening hours. Don’t miss out!
