A MONIFIETH construction apprentice at Angus College, Jay Butterworth, has been awarded a silver medal in bricklaying in the World Skills: Skill Build Competition.

Jay (20) impressed the judging panel with his bricklaying skills in the heats which saw him fight off strong competition from across the country to win the title.

He is now looking to progress to the advanced level in the national competitions which will be taking place later this month.

Jay told the Guide & Gazette: “The whole experience of competing in the Skill Build competition has been brilliant and I look forward to pushing myself to compete again in April, this time at the higher advanced level.”
