Following on from D&A College’s successful ‘Pink Day’ the students were again back in action for a corresponding ‘Blue Day’.
To mark ‘Movember’ and all things relating to men’s health issues the students last Wednesday set out to raise awareness of issues such as mental health, obesity and cancer.
The awareness day saw a variety of organisations host a stall at the event. Stalls included Macmillan Cancer Support, the NHS community nurse, SAMH, all of whom gave useful pointers and information on men’s health issues.
The event saw the college’s Sports Union officer Craig Nicoll, Learner Engagement officer Tatiana Zorina and the Students’ Association’s Kelly Thom come together with the help of other students and showcase the importance of the charity and the lack of awareness surrounding men’s health.
The Movember Foundation aims to change this way of thinking by putting a fun twist on this serious issue. Using the moustache as a catalyst, the idea is to bring about change and give men the opportunity and confidence to learn and talk about their health and take action when needed.
