CARNOUSTIE is set to be represented at this year’s Olympic Games after Eilish McColgan landed a place in the British athletics team.
Eilish (21), daughter of long distance runner Liz, convincingly won the 3,000m steeplechase at the Aviva 2012 Olympic Trials in Birmingham on Sunday.
And winning the race, even though she fell at the first hurdle, meant she landed a spot in the Olympic team for the event, which take place in London.
Eilish has recently had to overcome a broken foot, and also had to contend with a heavy cold on the race day.
And on Sunday evening, she took to Twitter and explained: “Still can’t believe it! So happy! British champion and secured my spot at the Olympics! Thanks for all the lovely messages!”
See Friday’s Guide & Gazette for more on Eilish’s success.
