‘Avin’ a laff

Monifieth Eco Force’s recent clean-up and tree planting event at the Dighty Burn was taken to new heights by the surprise visit of Armstrong the Giraffe, aka Kenny Baillie.

In addition to the giraffe, some 15 people supported the event including members of the Zero Waste Scotland Dundee Group, Dundee Friends of the Earth and Monifieth Rotary Club.

Altogether nine bags of rubbish, two industrial batteries and a large section of metal railing were removed for recycling.

As well as helping with the clean-up volunteers also planted the remainder of the tree pack, mainly hazel and crab apple saplings, donated by the Woodland Trust.

Organiser Alex Graham said, “When I spotted Armstong I thought someone’s having ‘a laff’ and he certainly brought a smile to the face of everyone taking part in the event.”
