Monifieth Eco Force and Monifieth Wine Circle welcome everyone to join them on a ‘Wild Food Forage’ featuring Elderflower and other edible plants.
The event takes place at Dighty Den tomorrow (Saturday, July 20) between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
Elderflower creates a familiar sight in our local countryside at this time of year growing as bushes or small trees along road verges and hedgerows, on the edge of woodlands, or even uninvited into gardens.
The large clusters of creamy white flowers which appear from late June through July give the plant its distinctive appearance and also create the familiar highly scented aroma especially on a warm sunny day.
From ancient times Elderflower has been highly prized for culinary uses and those familiar with country recipes will be aware of classics such as Elderflower cordial or Elderflower champagne.
Participants are invited to enjoy a short guided walk along the Dighty and learn how to recognise some of the wild plants that can be eaten. Then try some samples of food and beverages produced using these as essential ingredients.
All are welcome but children under 16 should be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Meet at the Eco Force Gazebo by the Footbridge below Milton Inn. Parking is available in the Milton Inn car park, Grange Road, Monifieth.
