European honour for young local musician

CARNOUSTIE musician Peter Jackson has been selected by the Scottish Brass Band Association to play with the European Youth Brass Band.

He will travel to Oslo at the end of this month to spend a week in Norway touring and performing with some of the best young brass players in Europe.

He is a pupil of Michael Robertson at Carnoustie High School, and plays with the Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band, and Arbroath Instrumental Band.

Peter is currently the principal baritone player with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland.

He is a sixth year pupil at Carnoustie High School and is going on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. He will be studying Euphonium with David Childs.

Peter’s mum, Christine Jackson, told the Guide & Gazette: “Undoubtedly his success is due, in no small part, to the hard work and expertise of his brass teacher, Michael Robertson.

“Mr Robertson has inspired and nurtured so many of our local youngsters, and has helped to provide some amazing opportunities for them both locally and nationally.”
