A plethora of good reviews on Trip Advisor was excuse enough for the Dispatch editorial team to visit the Osnaburg Bar for a weekday lunch.

It was quiet on a Thursday afternoon with only a couple of other tables occupied - usually warning signs - as we read over the tempting menu. But we certainly need not have worried.

As well as the regular lunchtime menu with favourites such as steak pie, burgers and sandwiches there was a number of daily specials to tempt hungry customers. It didn’t take us long to make our choices of the pasta of the day, burger of the day and a spicy chicken hot baguette.

As all food is cooked fresh to order we had a wee bit of a wait but it was well worth it when we saw the results.

The food came out of the kitchen beautifully presented by the chef and the portion sizes were more than generous - especially for lunchtime.

The spicy chicken baguette was served with home-made chips and fresh, crispy salad with home-made coleslaw.

Usually you couldn’t go far wrong with a simple baguette but this was, hands down, one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.

The spice was just right, and the sauce just creamy enough and the chips were, pardon the cliche, “to die for”.

The presentation of the pasta was a work of art - and it tasted delicious too!

Pasta dishes can be a hit or a miss- but this was right on target. It was creamy, tasty, filled with pasta, mushrooms and peppers in a bolognaise sauce. It was served with a side salad which was a meal in itself. Homemade coleslaw, the usual salad suspects, fresh grapes and four delicious slices of garlic bread provided so many fresh flavours which complemented the pasta perfectly.

Burgers can be a little pedestrian and bland, but happily not so here. Not only was it freshly made to order, it was cooked and seasoned to perfection and it almost seemed a shame to add the tangy tomato and sweetcorn relishes, or barbecue sauce, which accompanied it - almost, but not quite.

Hand-cut chips, crispy salad and tasty onion rings topped off the whole ensemble which was attractively presented and a feast for the eyes. Overall, terrific value for money.
