Explorer Scouts on Japanese Jamboree

Local young people and adults will be travelling on the adventure of a lifetime this summer to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Yamaguchi province of Japan.

The selection process began two years ago to find Explorer Scouts for the
unique experience.

Ross Hendry from Friockheim and Molly Munro from Hillside, Montrose were the lucky Scouts chosen from the Arbroath and
Montrose District.

Some months later John Campbell, Scouter from Hillside, Montrose and Kirsty Wallace, Scouter from Arbroath were selected as leaders for the Highlands and Islands Unit and Alison O’Hara, Scouter from Montrose was selected to be part of the Japan Programme Team. They have each been required to raise almost £3,000, which not only covers all their flights, food and accommodation (in tents!) but also goes to assist Scouts and Leaders from less well off countries to attend the Jamboree.

There are to be more than 147 nations represented at the camp of over 33,000 participants. They will all visit Tokyo and Hiroshima and the young people will experience home hospitality with Japanese families as part of their trip.

The five local Scouts and Scouters would like to take this opportunity to thank most sincerely all family, friends, local businesses and organisations for supporting them in their fundraising efforts over the past 18 months.
