A fundraiser by Carnoustie Rotarians earlier this summer has raised more than £13,000 for charity which was presented this week.

The Provost’s Summer Charity Ball was held in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel on June 13, and as a result of the event a cheque for £13,222 was presented by the Rotary Club of Carnoustie to Alzheimer Scotland - Angus Services in the Station Hotel on Wednesday.

Angus Provost Helen Oswald said: “Having nominated Alzheimer Scotland as my charity of the year, I was delighted when the Rotary Club of Carnoustie, of which I am a member, organised a Provost’s Ball with proceeds to Alzheimer Scotland - Angus Services. In my wildest dreams, I didn’t imagine that we would raise such a magnificent sum! It is truly amazing. We had tremendous support from an enormous number of people - too many to mention, but a huge thank you to all of them.”

Archie Leiper, who was Carnoustie Rotary president at the time of the ball added: “The Rotary Club of Carnoustie is proud to have taken the lead in organising the 2015 Provost’s Ball. Our gratitude is due to all the local businesses, Rotarians and individuals whose generosity ensured this extraordinary outcome. Without your support the Ball would not have been the undoubted success it turned out to be. Thanks to you all.”
