CARNOUSTIE Fire and Rescue Service presented Ayley and Chloe Hirsch with a cheque on Tuesday evening.

The cheque, for £1,473.67 was handed over at the Fire Station on Kinloch Street by members of the retained fire service, and were the proceeds of the fun day on June 25.

The fun day included fire-fighting demonstrations, a tombola, a set of stocks and all the usual stalls.

Retained firefighter Gary Strachan said: “It was a fantastic day all round, it couldn’t have gone any better.”

He added that the crew were unsure how successful they would be: “We said to each other, if we raise £500 we’ll be happy.

“We had no idea how much we would raise, we’ve never done anything like that before.

“It was actually nice just to take part. The fact that we raised so much just makes it even better.”
