Flying start to Barry Buddon race

The inaugural Barry Buddon Half Marathon on Sunday was a runaway success according to the organisers.

Veteran runner Alan Lawson and his team staged the half marathon over the cycle and walking paths in and around the Barry Buddon training area and nearly 300 runners completed the race.

Alan was happy with how things turned out. He said: “If anything it was possibly too hot for the runners. People were maybe three or four minutes down on their normal good times for a half marathon.

“I think it went very well and the punters were happy so that was good, it all worked fine. I’d give it a nine out of 10.

“I think it’s a good course and a scenic area, it’s quite flat and with a bit better luck with the weather people can come and round good times.”

He continued: “The group who organised Sunday’s event are all for doing it again in 2015 and probably at much the same time of year, although dates won’t be known until later.

“We feel that we got goodish numbers to take part from quite a wide geographical area as well and there are clubs now saying they will make this a special day out.”
