The perfect combination of food and film returns to The Retreat at Glenesk with with a French twist. Local charity Angus Arts are returning for one of their extremely popular ‘Food and a Film’ evenings on Saturday October 4. Maria MacDonell, Co-Creative Director of Angus Arts, explains: “We’re showing ‘Le Weekend’ (15), a British bittersweet comedy directed by Roger Michell and written by Hanif Kureishi, which was released last year and has received fantastic reviews.

“It’s about Nick and Meg Burrows, a married academic couple from Birmingham who are advancing in age...and tension. To mark their 30th wedding anniversary they embark on a trip to Paris, the place they honeymooned three decades ago. It has a great cast including Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan and Geoff Goldblum.”

To complement the film The Retreat will be providing a delicious French themed meal of Bouillabaisse (French stew, with vegetarians catered for) and mini French pastries.

The Retreat will be open all day and the bar will be open throughout the evening.

Tickets cost £10 including food and can be purchased from Angus Arts on 01561 298173 / 01356 670304, by emailing or from The Retreat. Doors open at 6.30 p.m.

Just 9 miles off the B966 (Edzell to Fettercairn road) The Retreat is community run and owned, offering superb home cooking in its licensed restaurant, Scottish made crafts in its shop, a nature trail and children’s play area and the much loved Glenesk Folk Museum displaying a unique collection of artefacts of national significance.
