A former Arbroath hotel is to get a new lease of life as 20 brand new apartments.

The long derelict Viewfield Hotel, Viewfield Road, was at one point a focal point of Arbroath’s social scene but will be transformed into two and three bedroomed apartments.

With work due to start soon, local businessman Alex Dalglish, stated: “I am delighted to have secured the services of both Voigt and Moir Construction to design and construct the development. I was very impressed by the quality of the Moir Construction development at Alexandra Place and the Viewfield will be to the same standard.”

Apartments will be constructed around the core of the old Viewfield, preserving something of the original features and anchoring into the neighbourhood.

Roddy Maxwell, the property director at Wardhaugh - the selling agents for the development - said: “This is a very well known landmark in Arbroath with many people having had a connection with the former hotel at some point in the past. We are all very excited about this development and are confident of a healthy response given the location and standard of finish, with buyers able to choose from a range of quality kitchens and bathrooms. With four reservations already been taken from plan we are very pleased with the level of enquiries to date.”
