A CARNOUSTIE funeral director has won a national award for the quality of their service.
Selwood Funeral Directors, which has branches in Carnoustie and Monifieth, received Golden Charter’s National Funeral Planner of the Year 2012 award last Sunday.
The presentation took place at the Marriott Hotel in Newcastle where their commitment to providing an outstanding service to the community was recognised.
Selwood was chosen from over 2,600 independent funeral directors in Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales and built on their success last year as the recipient of the Regional Funeral Planner of the Year for Scotland and Ireland.
Lindsay Martin, owner of Selwood Funeral Director, said he was shocked to hear his company had beaten off the competition on a national scale, including finalists from London and Yorkshire.
He said: “We were actually named Regional winner first. We were gobsmacked when the name Selwood came up and then when they announced we had won we just about fell off our seats!”
Lindsay is understandably delighted with the result, he commented: “We’re very pleased with this award which is down to the hard work of our colleagues in the business. It’s the whole staff’s dedication and commitment.
“It’s amazing to think that wee places like Carnoustie and Monifieth have been picked out for the whole of Britain. It’s quite an achievement.”
The managing director of Golden Charter, Ronnie Wayte, said: “This is the 19th year of these awards, and each year it becomes more difficult to choose a winner.
“Through these awards Golden Charter celebrate personal excellence and professional commitment in one of the most difficult and challenging areas of serving the public.
“Selwood Funeral Directors have set a very high standard and we are delighted to recognise this tremendous achievement.”
