Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the culmination of the week-long Gala celebrations in Carnoustie with the annual parade and fete.

The parade of brightly decorated floats, led by the Carnoustie and District Pipe Band, will leave the Panmure Industrial Estate at precisely 1 p.m.

‘The Wild West’ themed entries, crewed by a range of Carnoustie groups and organisations, will proceed along Victoria Street, Dundee Street, High Street, Church Street, up Carlogie Road, along Newton Road and down Queen Street to join the Gala Day fete in the Carnoustie House Grounds.

According to the schedule the fun at the House Grounds kicks off at around 2 p.m. and will be presented by town Councillor Brian Boyd with music from Murray Clark.

There will be a number of displays and events on show in the arena including a dog display by the Tayside Road Runners, the Fiona Forbes School of Dance, Danscentre, the Zuglu Drumming Band, a wrestling demonstration, a bonnie babies contest, a dog show competition and music from the massed pipes and drums.

The Gala Day will also host Carnoustie’s first ever Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association branch pipe band competition.

Among the bands competing are Arbroath Royal British Legion Scotland, Alyth and District, the 6th/8th Dundee Boys’ Brigade, Carnoustie and District, Kinross and District and two bands from the City of Brechin.

The competition commences at 11 a.m. and bands will be competing throughout the day as well as leading the Gala Day parade through the town. Massed bands and a prize-giving are scheduled for around 4.15 p.m.

There will also be all the usual stalls and amusements arrayed around the arena with a puppet show and street entertainers thrown in for good measure. The entertainment will close with a disco in the Corner Hotel, Dundee Street, from 7.30 p.m.

Entrants for the Can-U-Spot It competition are reminded that their entry forms should be handed in to the Fobel Shop by 4 p.m. today (Friday).
