Gala Week fun for all ages

CARNOUSTIE Gala Committee pulled out the stops this week with events for all the family.

On Sunday a dozen intrepid children headed down to the beachfront for a treasure hunt.

Committee member Gordon Henderson was understandably disappointed by the weather, but was pleased that so many children made the effort regardless.

He said: “The weather was awful and the tide was in, but there were still about a dozen children plus parents who came down to take part.

“I do think that the weather did put some people off this year as last year we had more than 20 children.”

The treasure hunt was followed by a Songs of Praise in the evening at the War Memorial, and featuring popular hymns, readings and prayers.

The 40 to 50 strong audience was led by Annie Thomson and accompanied by Michael Robertson and members of the Carnoustie High School brass band.

On Monday, the dismal weather failed to deter children at the Beach Hall who created some vibrant pavement art.

And the following day, a general knowledge quiz was held in the Laurie Lounge of the Royal British Legion Scotland, Dundee Street.

The quiz was well attended, with 20 tables taken. The winning team was ‘the Tinkerbelles’.

Wednesday was another busy day for the Gala, with a sand art competition and a folk night in the Aboukir Hotel.
