Elton John and his band will visit Aberdeen on Saturday, June 20 2015 as part of their smash-hit European concert tour.
The open air summer show, for approximately 14,000 fans, will be the first that Elton John has performed for the Aberdeen audience since his sold out show at Pittodrie Stadium in 2004.
This spectacular concert will be staged in a specially constructed outdoor arena, with fully reserved seating throughout, and will be the first ever concert staged in this way at AECC.
In order to bring the Rocket Man back to Aberdeen, Elton’s team will be creating a venue from scratch, outdoors on the south side of the AECC complex, with a full arena seating layout and a stage measuring 50 metres wide and 20 metres high.
There will be a full range of concert facilities at the show, with internal and external bars, catering and restrooms.
The tour will feature iconic hits and classic album tracks from throughout his incredible five-decade career, including a selection of songs from his highly acclaimed album, ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a Deluxe Edition.
Elton John’s band includes original member Nigel Olsson on drums, as well as Davey Johnstone on guitar, Matt Bissonette on bass, John Mahon on percussion, and Kim Bullard on keyboards.
He said: “When I was told I had the opportunity to return to Aberdeen I jumped at it. Ten years is too long! I can still remember playing at The Music Hall at my first gig in the Granite City in 1972, and am very grateful to the AECC for giving us the chance to construct our own stage for this show.
“I cannot wait to bring my band which includes guitarist Davey Johnstone from Scotland, who has been with me since 1972, back to Aberdeen…I am sure we will all have a fantastic time.”
Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director commented: “We are delighted to welcome the wonderful Elton John to the North East of Scotland, it is fantastic that that a performer of his calibre has chosen to include Aberdeen as part of his Tour. The building of the specially constructed outdoor arena shows the flexibility of AECC when bringing artists to the Region. We look forward to welcoming Elton John in June 2015 and are sure that tickets will be highly sought-after for this show!”
Undeniably one of the most acclaimed and adored artists of all time, Elton’s spectacular stage shows are sought after by audiences worldwide. Since his career began in 1969 he has played more than 3,500 concerts in over 80 countries.
