The speaker at the latest meeting of Arbroath Rotary Club was local farmer James Black of Backboath Farm.
With the aid of a Powerpoint presentation James delivered an extremely interesting talk which reviewed his visit to China in March of this year.
James, driven by an extremely strong interest in agriculture, is a Nuffield Scholar and his visit to China was organised under the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Programme.
He visited a range of farms and other agricultural enterprises specifically located in Hong Kong, Guiyang, Bejing, Dalion and Harbin. The visit programme also included a visit to a large meat processing plant operated by the Heilongjiang Grand Farm Group Ltd and a recently constructed Dairy Farming Institute developed with the assistance of Nestle Foods.
James was introduced by fellow farmer William Lawrie with Mary Struthers delivering the formal vote of thanks. Club president David Miller was in the chair.
