GOWFER’S captain Robert Hendry doesn’t believe his side need fear anyone in the Super League if they can maintain their previous form.
There is however some argument about the strength of the Vics squad and Robert is not entirely happy with the performance.
Robert said: “We could’ve been better in front of the goal, although for a while I wasn’t sure if it would stay one-nil. We never took our chances to kill the game.”
He added: “We were up against a lesser Vics squad. Last time we played them we just managed to steal it from them at the end.
“I was told after the game that quite a lot of Vics players were missing, and it was a different side to the one we played before.
“We were sharper up front than them and they were slower in defence.”
On Saturday the Gowfers face Hill of Beath Hawthorne, a regular Super League side Carnoustie have had mixed results against.
Robert said: “Hill of Beath are a steady super league side. They might be thinking we’ll give them an easy game.
“They’re going to be up for it, they’re at the top of the table just now, and there’s not a lot of points separating the teams in the league.”
But Robert is confident his side has it in them, he said: “It’s going to be how we start on Saturday, we need to be sharp at the back.
“It should be a tricky game, but as long as we go about it the right way I wouldn’t fear a lot of clubs, especially if we play the way we did against Linlithgow Rose.”
