A Carnoustie social group with a sense of humour plans to honour an infamous East Coast poet this weekend.

The Aboukir Grumpies are holding a McGonagall Shindig in the Aboukir Hotel from 3-5pm on Sunday (March 26).

The work of William Topaz McGonagall, weaver, actor and poet, is widely regarded as being so bad as to verge on comic genius, garnering a cult following.

There will be a talk on the Dundee poet, poetry, songs, stories and music by local group ‘Af The Cuff’.

As McGonall’s favourite meal was breakfast, the Grumpies heartily recommend that you try the Aboukir’s tribute, the Special McGonagall Breakfast Bap, which will be available during the event.
