An Arbroath guesthouse joined a select group this week when it was a awarded a coveted AA quality mark for their high service.
The Hayswell Guesthouse, 29 Hayswell Road, which is run by Linda Fletcher, received official confirmation of the AA Three Star Gold Award on Monday.
She said: “We found out literally on Saturday morning when we saw it on the AA website. We had the inspection on Wednesday and we received written confirmation on Monday.
“The gold award indicates the best of quality in three, four, or five star accommodation. I think it’s quite an achievement for a local guest house.”
The Hayswell Guesthouse opened four years ago and has gone from strength to strength and according to Linda regularly has 80 or 90 per cent occupancy.
Linda added: “I’m delighted, it has been a lot of hard work for over four years building it all up.
“It’s a well deserved accolade, a boost to morale and something which we aim to improve upon.
“There are a lot of black three star places but I don’t think there are many gold three stars in Scotland!”
When contacted a spokesperson for the AA was able to confirm the scarcity of gold awards.
She said: “The AA star ratings provide guests with the knowledge of the standards they can expect from an establishment.
“This helps when selecting the appropriate accommodation for their needs.
“In Scotland there are currently 62 Gold Star properties broken up into 13 Three Star, 32 Four Star and 17 Five Star properties.”
The Hayswell Guesthouse is described as a traditional Victorian guesthouse.
The two rooms, a double and a twin, both with en-suite and all the mod-cons such as Wi-Fi.
