ANGUS folk troubled by high levels of anxiety could see some relief thanks to a new technique developed by a local therapist.
Elaine MacNaughton, a complementary and energy therapist from Carnoustie, believes her Paradigm Shift Technique (PST) could help people affected by a range of mental health issues.
She explained: “I’ve developed a technique that neutralises negative emotion. I believe it works by producing oxytocin in the brain and that has the effect of changing a negative emotion to a positive one.”
Elaine taps into the body’s main energy line using her fingertips to stimulate various acupuncture points to dispel negativity.
Claire Mackay received counselling after being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Her sister bought her a voucher for PST at Elaine’s studio at the Serenity Sanctuary. She said: “I tend to catastrophise things in my head. I remember coming out and crossing the busy road, getting to the other side and realising that I hadn’t worried about getting killed by a car.
“Even my counsellor said to me she had never seen me with such calmness and clarity in the two-and-half years she had been seeing me. It’s like an emotive memory becomes a narrative memory, a story of a memory.”
Elaine believes PST could be a real boon. She said: “The beauty of it is that I don’t need people to relive their traumas they just tell me what the emotions are.
“Stress plays such a massive part in people’s lives, it would save a lot of resources on the NHS if people were open minded enough.
“I find it helps beautifully after counselling because counselling is excellent in finding the root of the problem.”
Elaine will offer PST tasters on June 2 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at an event raising money and awareness of mental health issues.
