Hollywood star Brian Cox unveiled refurbished lamp standards at Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, on Tuesday.

The ceremony had been organised by Broughty Ferry Development Trust (BFDT) which was instrumental in the refurbishment of the ornate Victorian lamp standards.

Mr Cox is from Dundee and has his own Broughty Ferry connection as the main character in the cult series about Bob Servant’s efforts to become the MP for Broughty Ferry, set in the burgh.

The ornate Victorian lamp posts on Beach Crescent, each of which depicts Broughty Ferry Castle in relief on the doors, were in a very bad state and the trust obtained funding to refurbish them from Dundee Historic Environment Trust. This is now complete.

Broughty Ferry Development Trust is a charitable organisation which aims to improve Broughty Ferry by accessing grants to progress sensitive development.
