Despite the somewhat frigid air in the West Kirk on Friday evening the ladies of In Harmony soon chased away the blues with some fantastic music at their annual concert.
There were many highlights to the concert, both from the ladies themselves and from their guests.
Their opening segment of ‘show tunes’ was varied and well presented with the choir really getting into the groove and responding well to musical director Vicki White.
The ladies continued with a Scottish segment, a fine selection of Beatles’ songs and a tribute to the classic musical ‘Show Boat’, before their passionate finale of ‘Flying Free’ and ‘The Rhythm of Life’.
Young Carnoustie brass ensemble. Con Fuoco. were on top form in both of their diverse sets, demonstrating admirably their skill.
Special guest was Nicole Vasey, a young soprano of tremendous talent.
She sang two selections, including Schubert’s setting of ‘Ave Maria’ and a jaw-dropping rendition of Ivor Novello’s ‘Waltz Of My Heart’.
No choir can function without a musical director and Vicki White proved once again she is capable of moulding the ladies of In Harmony into a fine musical aggregation who are a credit to Arbroath.
A special mention must be made of the fabulous Alison Hart, accompanist throughout the evening. Alison is a true musical ambassador and wizard at the piano keyboard and it was an honour to hear her play.
A comprehensive vote of thanks was provided by Joan MacGregor.
It was noted that the proceeds from this concert and the choir’s other activities were being donated this year to the Arbroath RNLI and Marie Curie – Arbroath Branch.
