St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Arbroath will cook up a treat next month when it launches its new kitchens to the
Church members will be joined for the occasion on Friday, September 4, by Arbroath chef Jamie Scott, winner of the BBC MasterChef: The Professionals 2014.
Further to receiving £9997 from the Lottery Fund Awards to construct the new kitchen, St. Mary’s intends to hire the facilities to groups within the community to host cookery events, supporting those moving towards independent living and single parents to help educate them towards creating affordable meals.
A spokesperson for the church said: “We used all local businesses to buy the items required and local tradesmen to do all the work, some of whom went that extra mile working evening and weekends. The cookery classes will be run by volunteers and will hopefully reach out to all the community as well as local agencies. We’re delighted Jamie is joining us for our launch – his talents as a chef will certainly inspire our volunteers to help the community.”
Angus Council Focus Years Fund provided £1000 to help towards the final build.
Jamie said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to support St Mary’s. The new kitchen is fantastic and I’m thrilled it will be used to give back directly to the community.”
The opening on September 4 is at 7pm at the church with the invitation open to all.
