DUNDEE East MSP Shona Robison, minister for sport and Commonwealth Games, is urging local people to get involved in the jogscotland 5k event at Camperdown Park, Dundee, on Wednesday, September 14.
She said: “The jogscotland 5k challenge represents an opportunity for people in the area to participate in physical activity that could have significant health benefits for them in the future.
“Events like this give everyone the chance to take part in healthy activity regardless of their ability and I would encourage as many people as possible to rise to the challenge on Wednesday, September 14, and to get out and be more active.”
Taking place in the evening, the event is a perfect post school or work run which the whole family can get involved in.
Ms Robison continued: “The health benefits of achieving recommended physical activity levels are second only to those of stopping smoking, so even for those unable to take part in the challenge I would urge them to explore the jogscotland website to discover just how easy it is to increase their physical activity through safe, simple and gentle walk/jog/run programmes that will benefit their health.”
Entry is now open for the Dundee jogscotland 5k challenge online at www.5kchallenges.org.uk .
All participants will receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag and there will be spot prizes handed out. Local bands will provide entertainment over the course of the evening.
