Lifeboat Guild award winners

TWO MEMBERS of the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild have won the silver and gold badge awards.

Mary Gerrard (left) has been with the Guild since around 1964 after originally joining to assist her future mother-in-law with fund-raising. Over the years she has sold various souvenirs and in 1979 she became a member of the committee while still assisting with fund-raising.

In 1993, Mary became souvenir secretary and started running the RNLI shop which is a position she holds to this day.

She said: “I am very grateful to the RNLI authorities for this honour to a very worthwhile cause which I hold very dear.”

Mary will receive her gold badge at the Barbican Centre, London in May this year.

Rhona Goodfellow was elected to the committee in 1985 and was vice-president from 1991 to 2000. She was awarded the bronze badge in 1999.

Rhona will receive her silver badge at the RNLI annual meeting at Perth in June.
