Arbroath’s inshore lifeboat was launched on Friday after concerns had been raised about a distressed male in the water close to the town’s harbour entrance.
The lifeboat, with three crew members on board, was launched at approximately 10.50 a.m.
When the RNLI volunteers arrived at the scene it became apparent that the casualty had been able to extricate himself from the water.
He was subsequently assessed by paramedics before being transferred to the care of Police Scotland, Tayside Division.
Having remained at the scene until the incident was over, the lifeboat crew returned to station at 11.50 a.m.
