ARBROATH’S lifeboat crew conducted a sea search following reports of a distress flare being discharged yesterday (Thursday).
The all-weather lifeboat RNLB Inchcape was called out after a red distress flare was reported to have been sighted to the south of the town.
A request for assistance from HM Coastguard was received at 5.05 p.m. and the lifeboat was launched immediately thereafter.
A spokesperson for the RNLI said: “The volunteer crew quickly made their way to the area in which the flare had reportedly been spotted and set about carrying out a thorough search.
“After an hour of detailed searching and with no further indication that there was indeed an emergency situation the crew were stood down and subsequently returned to the lifeboat station.”
