Arbroath couple George and Margaret Wight celebrated a great milestone in their marriage at the weekend.
On Saturday they were delighted to receive a card from Buckingham Palace on their diamond wedding anniversary and were guests of honour at a family dinner in the Portcullis.
The couple met at a dance in Kennoway and married at Buckhaven Registrar’s Office on August 17, 1953.
Mrs Wight, nee McGuire, was brought up in Cambuslang and moved to Fife as a teenager. On leaving school she worked in the John Haig distillery and then as a bus conductress until her wedding. Mr Wight is a native of Methil, Fife, and worked for Bossies Spinning, Leven, on leaving school.
In 1960 they moved to England where Mr Wight worked as an installation engineer. They moved back to Methil in 1975, but have lived in Arbroath for the last 35 years. Mr Wight worked for Francis Webster & Sons Ltd.
Both used to be keen bowlers but nowadays enjoy crosswords, puzzles and spending time with their family. They are parents to George, Alan, Gary, Sandra and the late Brian. They have 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
